Great Barrier Reef from the air

There is more than 2900 individual reefs and 900 or so islands, small bare sand cays, permanent vegetated cays and an assortment of large islands. The Great Barrier Reef is greater in area than Britain or Victoria(Australia). There is approximately 400 types of hard and soft Coral. More than 4000 molluscs like clams, snails and their kin, thousands of different sponges, worms and many other types.

There are more than 1500 species of fish. Making for an enormous amount of species to find and explorer. The Great Barrier Reef is also the breeding grounds for a number of endangered animal species. Our largest visitors are the Humpback Whales on the way through from the Antarctic to the reef's warm waters to give birth to their young.

Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island - WhitsundaysHamilton Island is a central point of the Whitsunday Islands just a short two hour jet flight from Sydney.

The Whitsundays are a special place on the planet , part of the World Heritage Barrier Reef national park an area which continues to cast a spell of peace in a stress filled world.

It is the quiet sea, the maze of islands, the sun, the sand, island views, the service and sociality that produces that special environment that makes time lose its meaning.

The island is more than a secluded island resort, being the centre point of the Whitsundays with the modern jetport, large Marina and ferry terminal, Marina Harbourside Village, wide range of restaurants and eateries and large choice of shops and services, and of course famous scenic Cats Eye Beach.

The balmy star studded tropical nights are something to be experienced.

Climate
Situated on 20°4'S and 148°5'E, the Whitsundays has a welcoming tropical climate with an estimated average 8.25 hours of sunshine daily and mean annual temperatures of 27.24°C max. and 21°C min.
